Abstract

1,179,747. Embossing. T. H. DIXON & CO. Ltd. 27 Sept., 1968 [5 Oct., 1967], No. 45526/67. Heading B5A. [Also in Division B6] A web or sheet of paper, foil, plastics or other deformable material is embossed or moulded by passing the web or sheet between, and in contact with, the co-operating surfaces of a rigid patterned member and a brush, the bristles of the brush serving as an impression member. Apparatus, Fig. 1.-A frame 5 supports a shaft 3 for a steel roller 1 having a patterned surface 2, and pivotable arms 29 carrying a shaft 24 for a rotary brush 25. In use paper towelling 39 is fed between roller 1 and brush 25 which is then brought into operative position by pivoting of arms 29 under the action of air cylinders 36 and piston rods 35 until the ends of the arms abut adjustable stop members 38. The peripheral speeds of roller 1 and brush 25 are matched with web 39 by means of motor 15 through belt drives 16, 7 and 22. The brush 25 has resilient nylon bristles (26) secured to a helical core (Fig. 5, not shown).
