[Also in Division H4] An electronic desk calculator is adapted to generate dialling pulses. As described a four rules machine has an. indicating device comprising a plurality of gas tubes or a cathode-ray tube. A telephone number entered through the keyboard is stored in a register (e.g. the accumulator) in binary coded decimal form. The number is decoded digit by digit by a counter which receives a digit in binary coded form and is counted down to zero by clock pulses supplied from the exchange or by division of the clock frequency of the calculator. A corresponding number of clock pulses are gated to line as dialling pulses through a gate which is closed when the counter reaches zero. The contents of the register are shifted to the left and the next digit supplied to line. The printing mechanism of the calculator may be used to determine the most significant digit and the decimal point mechanism may be employed to effect the transmission of zeros. Transmission to line is effected only when a handset is lifted from a hook switch on the calculator or when a change-over switch is operated. The number is stored in the calculator until transmission has been completed and is available for visual checking or repeated sending.
