Abstract

1179391 Cleaning railway wheels and rails TETRONICS RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CO Ltd 24 Jan 1967 [25 Jan 1966] 3220/66 Heading B7J [Also in Division C7] One or a pair of engageable metal surfaces, e.g. a railway vehicle wheel and/or rail are treated with a gaseous effluent from a source of arc plasma as described in Specification 1177941, to increase the friction between the surfaces. The plasma jet from the source may be circular or elliptical in cross-section. The plasma source is operated in a non-transferred arc mode. Nitrogen and argon mixtures are used as shielding gas. The plasma mixture comprises air, nitrogen and argon, and powdered silica may be jetted through the plasma jet.
