Abstract

1,179,116. Lightweight aggregate. JOHN LAING RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT Ltd. 12 Sept., 1967 [25 Aug., 1966], No. 38155/66. Headings C1H and C1J. Lightweight aggregate is made by sintering a pelletized granular material to which has been added, at or before the pelletizing, a density reducing substance which has been bloated, or can sublime or dissociate on heating. Examples are ammonium halide, carbonate, bicarbonate, sulphate, bisulphate and phosphate, alums, aluminium sulphate, borax, sodium silicate and clays. The products of sublimation and dissociation can be recovered, the initial compound reconstituted, and reused. Fly ash is the specified granular material.
