A fluid control servo valve for providing an output varying as a function of an input variable comprises a stationary nozzle 10, Fig. 1, to direct flow towards a pair of angularly disposed receiver passages 20, 22, a movable deflector member 16 between the passages and the nozzle and having an edge 14 tapered away from the nozzle, and control means responsive to the input variable and operatively connected to the deflector member to cause the latter to intrude into the flow 12 sufficiently to deflect the entire flow and modify the pressures in the receiver passages 20, 22. In Figs.3 and 4, the control means consists of a torque motor 26 having an armature member 34 movable about a pivot 36 in proportion to the signal energizing a winding 30 and carrying a flapper valve 60 having a port 56 normally in alignment with a nozzle 54. A pair of receiving orifices communicate with opposite sides of the piston 74 of a hydraulic motor 76 and a diagonal passageway 66 returns fluid which does not enter the orifices to a reservoir 40. The torque motor may be replaced by a pair of bellows sensing either a hydraulic or pneumatic pressure differential. In a further modification, the port 56 is formed in a horizontal extension of the flapper valve so as to move in a horizontal rather than a vertical plane.
