Abstract
1,178,961. Stacking articles; pneumatic conveyers. VACUUMATIC Ltd., and G. S. DUTTON. 10 Jan., 1967 [20 Jan., 1966], No. 2719/66. Headings B8A and B8C. A stacking table, lowered one step after receiving each layer of articles of a stack is fed with layers by members 26, 27 (Fig. 2) which move in a closed path. In the form illustrated, two tables 16, 17, which may support pallets, are loaded alternately. Layers of packages are fed by a conveyer It (Fig. 1) to a platform 13 formed with a series of air nozzles which reduce friction between the platform and the articles. As the packages pass an intake 13a for the air jets, they obturate it, to provide a braking effect. A pair of endless belts 15 provides the final feed which positions articles against a fence 14 and over a limit switch 36. A further switch 35 may detect when a layer on the platform 13 is complete. Manually-operated switches may vary the number of articles in each layer. Limit switches 45 . . . 48 controlling the sequence of operations may be carried by adjustable carriages 29, 30. The top flap (53), (Fig. 3A, not shown), of each package in turn is protected by an inclined flap (59) which the next package rides up.
