Abstract
1,178,139. Rolling. SCHWERMASCHINENBAU ERNST THALMANN VEB. 15 June, 1967, No. 27739/67. Heading B3M. [Also in Division G1] The temperature of the working roller of a metal strip rolling mill is measured by a temperature sensitive element mounted at the end of a tube carrying the supply leads, which tube is fixed within another tube axially movable within a support so as to vary the spacing of the element from the surface of the working roller. In one embodiment (Fig. 6) a thermistor 10 is mounted in a chamber 9 at the end of a plastic tube 8 carrying supply leads 11. The tube is fixed by screw 12 to within an adjusting member 7 screw-threaded to a rotatable annular member 6 and keyed at 20 to move vertically as the annular member is rotated to thereby adjust the spacing of the thermistor from the roller 2. A second temperature sensitive element 10<SP>1</SP> measures the temperature of the supporting block 16. A number of such temperature measuring devices are spaced across the width of the roller between two felt wipers 18 wiping oil previously sprayed on to the roller. A plastics block 13 protects the end of each tube 8 and plastics blocks 23 separate temperature-measuring devices. In another embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown) there are no felt wipers and the adjusting member 7 rotates within a fixed annular member 6.
