Abstract
1178115 Super-conductors IMPERIAL METAL INDUSTRIES (KNYOCH) Ltd 18 Jan 1967 [27 Jan 1966 21 March 1966 10 June 1966] 12240/66 1981/67 and 1984/67 Divided out of 1178114 Headings H1A A5 and A4D A composite electrical conductor is produced by mechanically working at an elevated temperature a super-conductor element and a "normal" conductor to provide a sub-assembly of a superconductor filament in and bonded to a matrix of normal material, placing a plurality of the subassemblies CS in a container T of "normal" conductive material and again working the assembly at an elevated temperature. The super-conductor may consist of niobium, or nioboum alloyed with titanium, zirconium and hafnium. Interstitial elements such as carbon, oxygen, nitrogen and hydrogen may be included. The "normal" material may consist of copper, aluminium, silver, indium or cadmium. The mechanical working may be effected by extruding, drawing or rolling and one material may be cast around the other. The working may be effected at between 250 and 450C.
