Abstract

1,177,979. Caravan window hinges; weatherproofing. S.M.L. (ENGINEERS) Ltd. [trading as ELLBEE WINDOW CO.]. 5 Nov., 1968 [14 Dec., 1967], No. 56812/67. Heading E2F. A horizontal hinge for caravan windows which consists of two interen gaging longitudinal hooked portions, one on the outer frame of the caravan and the other on the top rail of the window, is provided with a resilient rubber sealing strip to prevent water penetrating the hinge. Two longitudinal spaced ribs enclosing a longitudinal channel are provided on the outer face of one hinge member, and the enlarged longitudinal edge of the resilient sealing strip is inserted into the channel, the other longitudinal edge of the strip bearing against the other member. The strip is bent through approximately 90‹ and may be doubled-up without being displaced when the window is opened in the direction X. In one embodiment (Fig. 1) the channel is provided on the top rail 4 of the window, and the enlarged edge 7 of the sealing strip 8 is inserted in the channel, the other edge 9 bearing beneath a lip 3 on the hooked portion 2 of the frame 1, which hooked portion engages with the hooked portion 5 of the top rail 4. In another embodiment (Fig. 2) the channel is provided on the hooked portion 2 and receives the enlarged edge 7A of the sealing strip 8A whose other edge 9A bears against the pane P.
