Abstract

1,177,595. Hexamethylenediamine. A. A. ARTEMIEV. 3 July, 1968, No. 31767/68. Heading C2C. Hexamethylenediamine is prepared by treat' ing adipodinitrile in the liquid phase with H 2 and NH 3 in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst and under agitation at a Reynolds number of at least 200,000. The reaction is preferably carried out at 145-170‹ C. using a hydrogen partial pressure of 140-150 atmos. a volume ratio of gas to liquid of 1: 9 and molar ratio adipodinitrile : NH 3 : H 2 of 1: 4: 0À3. The addition of an organic solvent and/or 5-15% by weight of water based on adipodinitrile accelerates the reaction. In the examples, the catalyst used is a chromium-nickel/cobalt oxide mixture and an agitation at a Reynolds number of about 300,000.
