Abstract

1325153 Aliphatic amino-nitriles IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 17 Sept 1970 [27 Oct 1969] 52443/69 Addition to 1240731 Heading C2C [Also in Division B1] An aliphatic amino nitrile in more than 50% molar yield and mixed with an aliphatic diamine is prepared by treating an aliphatic dinitrile with hydrogen under pressure of 1 to 500 atmospheres gauge at 50‹ to 250‹ C. in the presence of a Ziegler catalyst comprising a combination of an aluminium trialkyl and a cobalt alkanoate the quantity of hydrogen taken up by the reaction being limited to not more than 60% of that required for complete hydrogenation to diamine.
