Abstract

1,176,970. Treating textiles. MATHER & PLATT Ltd. 9 Sept., 1968 [20 Sept., 1967], No. 42825/67. Heading D1L, An apparatus for the liquid treatment of fabric webs comprises a tank 10 or 11 for holding the treatment liquid (cold concentrated aqueous caustic soda in tank 10, heated water in tank 11), one or more position-stationary rotatable rollers 14 or 114 extending transversely of the tank 10 or 11, and at least two buoyant rotatable drums 15 or 115 floatingly disposed within the tank below and in nipforming relationship with the rollers to define a sinuous web material path through the tank. The rollers 14, 114 are bearing mounted. The drums 15, 115 are hollow and have a spherical ended outwardly-extending spindle 38 at each end which rests freely in a U-shaped bracket 40 on the adjacent tank wall. The bracket is disposed so that even when the tank is empty the drum cannot contact the tank bottom and also the spindles cannot move upwardly out of the bracket due to the rollers 14, 114. The spindles serve to assist transverse location of the drums. Each drum is provided with a closable port 41 in an end wall to permit introduction of a gas to alter its buoyancy. The tanks 10, 11 are equipped for recycling of the liquids, perforated pipes 16, 116 being provided for the introduction of the treatment liquid. The most downstream roller 14A in tank 10 and both end rollers in tank 11 have a pendulum linkage tensioning device. A squeezing mangle 23, 123 is provided at the end of each tank.
