1,176,957. Coated gloves. H. G. THOMPSON. 12 July, 1968 [18 July, 1967], No. 32849/67. Heading B2K. A glove or other handcovering comprises a lining of fabric material e.g. of cotton, with a coating comprising a foundation layer of polyvinyl chloride paste or plastisol with a surfacing formed from premix granular powder, fused to form a bond between the foundation layer and the surfacing. The premix granular powder consists of polyvinyl chloride, plasticisers and colouring matter, mixed such that it remains a free-flowing powder which is not gelled. The glove may have a wrinkled non-slip surface character consisting of some of the premix granular powder coating fused on to the surface of the paste or plastisol coating or a rough surface character consisting of the premix granular powder coating and the paste or plastisol coating fused together. The glove may be produced by coating e.g. by dipping, the fabric lining with the paste or plastisol and while the coating is still in the liquid ungelled state, depositing e.g. by spraying or dipping, the premix powder thereon, and then subjecting the coated lining to heat treatment e.g. at between 170 and 210‹C, to effect gelling and fusion of both coatings. The paste may contain the polymer, plasticiser, heat stabilisers and colour dispersions. The paste or plastisol coating and the powder coating may be subjected to a temperature e.g. 170 to 190‹C, such that the powder coating fuses more slowly than the paste or plastisol coating with the result that the premix powder coating forms a wrinkled surface, or to a temperature e.g. 190 to 210‹C, such that the powder coating fuses concurrently with the paste or plastisol coating to form a rough surface.
