Abstract

1,176,886. Printing-apparatus. BALCO FILTERTECHNIK G.m.b.H. 20 Dec., 1967 [21 Dec., 1966], No. 57986/67. Heading B6C. A screen-printing stencil 1 is formed integrally of plastics material with the mesh openings 5 forming the design separated by bridges 4 of the plastics material, said bridges being connected to the closed regions 3 of the stencil. The bridges may be curved on one face and flat on the other and the mesh openings may vary in shape and/or size. Two or more stencils may be combined by superimposing them with the bridges staggered or rotated relative to one another and joined together either before curing &c. is complete or by welding. The stencil may be produced from a polyamide or any suitable hot or cold-setting plastics material in a die (6), Fig. 2 (not shown), by casting, compression or injection moulding techniques. The die is produced by machining, electroforming, or electrolytic etching. The die (6) comprises an electroformed sheet (9) having perforations (10) located on a base-plate (8). Alternatively, the design may be applied to the plate using photographic techniques followed by etching. A parting agent is applied to the die before moulding. The stencil is formed of a material which is sufficiently flexible to allow it to be removed from the die after any material protruding above the die top surface has been filed away. The stencil may be moulded to conform to the concave &c. shape of the article to be printed.
