Abstract
1,176,865. 6,7,8-Trideoxy-6-amino-1-thio-L- threa-α-D-galacto-octo pyranosides. UPJOHN CO. 17 Feb., 1967 [18 March, 1966], No. 7775/67. Heading C2C. Compounds of the formula (I) (wherein R is a hydrocarbon radical and Y is hydrogen or any acyl radical unaffected by deshalogenation) are prepared by deshalogenation with zinc dust of compounds of the Formula (II) (wherein Hal is a halogen). Compounds of the Formula (I) are novel when R is C 1-20 alkyl, C 3-8 cycloalkyl or cycloalkyl-alkyl or C 7-12 aralkyl and Ac is H or the acyl radical of one of the following 4-substituted-L-2- pyrrolidine carboxylic acids. (wherein Z is optionally substituted hydrocarboxycarbonyl, trityl, diphenyl-(p-methoxyphenyl) - methyl, bis - (p - methoxyphenyl) - phenyl - methyl, benzyl or pnitro-benzyl; R 1 is C 1-20 alkylidene, C 3-8 cycloalkylidene or cycloalkyl-alkylidene or C 7-12 aralkylidene; and R 2 is C 1-20 alkyl, C 3-8 cycloalkyl or cycloalkylalkyl or C 7-12 aralkyl. The above acids, and compounds of the formulae (I) and (II) containing their acyl radicals, can be interconverted in the sequences (1) CD#E#B 1 #B 2 ; (2) C#D# B 1 #B 2 ; and (3) C#D#A 1 #A 2 . Acid addition salts of the products are described. The novel compounds of the Formula (I), particularly 7-deoxylincomycin and closely related compounds, have antibacterial properties and can be made up into compositions with a carrier.
