Abstract

1,176,853. Polyimide-containing laminates. RHONE-POULENC S.A. 7 Nov., 1967 [8 Nov., 1966], No. 50672/67. Heading B5N. [Also in Divisions B2, C3 and C4] A laminate is obtained by coating a sheet with a mixture of a tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride, a diprimary diamine and water, removing water and applying pressure to a plurality of sheets at 100-400‹ C., preferably 120-350‹ C., thereby causing the coating mixture to react and form a polyimide. The mixture preferably contains sufficient ammonia to ensure complete solubility of the dianhydride, and is then applied a solution or dispersion, depending on the solubility of the diamine. Drying may take place below 150‹ C. The sheet may be satin-type glass fibre fabric. The dianhydrides may have formula where R is aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, herocyclic or aromatic and contains at least 2 carbon atoms. The diamines may have formula NH 2 -R 1 -NH 2 where R 1 is aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, heterocyclic or aromatic and contains at least 2 carbon atoms. A long list of dianhydrides and diamines is given.
