Abstract

1,176,692. Polymerisation catalysts. UNION CARBIDE CORP. 25 Jan., 1967, No. 3812/67. Heading B1E. [Also in Division C3] A catalyst complex is formed by a process comprising:-(1) introducing a first stream of a dry, inert, liquid hydrocarbon solvent to a first contact zone containing water to wet said first stream; (2) introducing the watercontaining first stream and a second stream which is a solution of a (C 1-12 ) hydrocarbyl aluminium compound in a dry, inert, liquid hydrocarbon solvent to a second reaction zone, wherein the hydrocarbyl aluminium compound and water react to form a solution of poly (hydrocarbyl aluminium oxide) in the hydrocarbon solvent, and (3) after aging said solution, adding thereto a Group IVA, VA or VIA transition metal compound to complete the formation of the catalyst complex. A flow diagram of the process is provided. Exemplified catalysts are mixtures of poly (isobutyl aluminium oxide) and chromic 2-ethylhexanoate or chromium acetylacetonate.
