Abstract

1447605 Polymerisation catalysts PHILLIPS PETROLEUM CO 8 May 1974 20290/74 Heading B1E [Also in Division C3] Catalysts are made by adding an aqueous alkali metal silicate solution to an aqueous acid solution, aging the hydrogel which is formed washing the aged hydrogel, adding a hexavalent chromium compound (or a compound convertible thereto upon calcination) to the hydrogel before, during or after aging, removing water from the chromium-containing hydrogel by contact with a water-soluble oxygen-containing organic liquid to form a xerogel and calcining the xerogel. The chromium compound may be added in aqueous solution or dissolved in the organic liquid and extra may be added after formation of the xerogel. Titanium may be incorporated by adding a titanium compound to the aqueous acid solution.
