Abstract

1,176,580. Processing spent nuclear fuel elements. ISRAEL, ATOMIC ENERGY COMMISSION, STATE OF. 13 Dec., 1968 [19 Feb., 1968], No. 59476/68. Heading G6R. The core of a spent uranium nuclear fuel element is removed from its cladding by immersing the element in 8-11 N nitric acid at 25- 80‹ C. until the core may be separated from the cladding. In examples, the fuel element claddings are of aluminium, Zircaloy 2, Inconel (R.T.M.), and stainless steel.
