Abstract
117,634. American Linseed Co., (Assignees of Schaub, J.). July 17, 1917, [Convention date]. Drawings to Specification. Solidified and gelatinized spirits.-A fuel is made by dissolving, in methyl alcohol, cellulose pentanitrate or other cellulose having a nitrogen content which renders it soluble in methyl alcohol, and then solidifying the solution by adding ethyl alcohol or water. In making the fuel, which is of the kind described in Specification 127,585, 4 parts of the cellulose compound, 46 parts of commercial methyl alcohol, and about 12 parts of connnercial ethyl alcohol may be used; by adding more ethyl alcohol, the fuel may be transformed into a solid jelly which may be cut into cubes. The jelly is formed with tubular passages of small cross-section, which can be filled with ethyl alcohol by capillary action .and, after the jelly has been cut into cubes, the exposed ends of the passages are sealed. These passages are formed by means of the apparatus described in Specification 117,635.
