Abstract
1,176,014. Automatic switching systems. BOLKOW G.m.b.H. 7 April, 1967 [9 April, 1966], No. 16142/67. Heading H4K. In setting up connection over a matrix 3 of relays, the relays being of assorted type, a marker 5 selects a particular relay or relays for operation and indicates to a current supply device 1 the particular value of current required for that relay or relays, the current supply being controlled by a circuit 4 which first applies current of half the required holding value so that a circuit 2 can conduct a test on the voltage dropped across the chosen relay or relays, the current being momentarily increased to a value to operate the relay or relays, if the test is satisfactory, and is thereafter supplied at full holding current level. If the test is not satisfactory, the voltage drop across the relay or relays being greater or less than expected, the current supply is disconnected and a fault signal is generated. Selection of the current level required by each relay is indicated by connections from each relay winding to one, two, or three of the leads 11, 12, 13. The voltages appearing on these leads when a relay is selected by the marker causes corresponding resistors to be switched in parallel with, the emitter resistor of a transistor which provides the current supply. The test circuit 2 comprises two transistor voltage threshold circuits which, in comparison with the reference voltage of a Zener diode indicate whether the voltage drop across the selected relay is above or below acceptable values.
