1,175,935. Electrodes for MHD apparatus. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE 30 July, 1968 [11 Aug., 1967], No. 36193/68. Addition to 1,130,518. Heading H2A. [Also in Division C1] Ceramic parts for electrodes especially M.H.D. converter electrodes are manufactured by fusing a mixture of chromic oxide and rare earth oxide which are in stoichiometric proportions in an inert or slightly reducing atmosphere, crushing the resultant chromite blocks into powder, shaping the powder into the part required and sintering the part. The inert atmosphere is preferably argon or nitrogen and the fusion of the oxide mixture is preferably carried out in a plasma furnace.
