Abstract

1,175,591. Hydraulic lifts. GENERAL ELECTRIC & ENGLISH ELECTRIC COMPANIES. 24 Jan., 1968 [24 Jan., 1967], No. 3586/67. Headings B8H and B8L. A ship-board lift installation incorporates a lift platform 1, with a turntable 18, movable vertically in guides 2 between different decks of the ship and comprises a lift driving arrangement with chains 3 to support the lift platform 1 and which pass over sprockets 4, the lower sprockets being driven by hydraulic motor units 5 synchronized by a shaft 8. The motor units 5 are supplied with pressure fluid by reversible main variable delivery pumps 9 themselves driven by electric motors 10. The driving system includes an hydraulic accumulator 11, consisting of vertical cylinders 12 providing an oil reservoir with a common feed pipe connected to their lower ends, their upper ends being connected to pressurized gas reservoir 13 consisting of vertical cylinders 14 of air or nitrogen. The arrangement is such that the pressure of the fluid at the pump inlet, when the lift platform 1 is in its highest position, Fig. 4, is at least 60% of the pressure at that inlet when the lift platform 1 is in its lowest position, Fig. 3. Lowering of the lift platform 1 causes oil to be fed from a storage tank 15 back into the accumulator 12, Fig. 5. Figs. 3 to 5 refer to an unloaded lift platform 1, Figs. 6 to 8 (not shown), illustrate conditions with a loaded platform.
