Abstract

1291173 Vehicle servicing units E M ALBARRAN 5 Feb 1970 [14 May 1969] 5519/70 Heading A4T [Also in Division B8] A vehicle servicing unit, which may be portable, comprises a housing having means to supply compressed air for tyres and vehicle drying, means to supply oil and grease means to supply oil-air cleaning, means to supply water for batteries, means to supply water for vehicle washing and is provided with a hydraulically operated jack having cantilevered arms 31 to raise the vehicle to aid inspection and servicing. The hoses for the various services are stacked on the sides of the housing which contains a compressed air cylinder 12 having a motor and compressor 16 which is used for tyre inflation, air drying of the vehicle body and to extract oil residues from crank-cases &c. Under the cylinder 12 are three removable tanks 40, 41, 42. The tank 40 has a pump 14 which impels oil through a meter and hose to its desired location, the tank 42 has a pump and hose to impel grease to a desired location and the tank 41 contains cleaning fluid, e.g. petroleum or gas-oil which is fed to a gun to which compressed air is applied to effect the discharge. Over the compressor 16 is mounted a tank 10 for distilled water for batteries. A hose is supplied for attachment to a water hydrant for car washing purposes and a pump may be supplied to boost the pressure. The jack for lifting the vehicle comprises two arms 31 connected to members 34 having rollers 35 running in guides 2 of the housing and has cross-members 33 and racks 38. The cross-members 33 have chains or cables 9 connected to them which run over pulleys 8 connected to the top of a hydraulic ram 6 and are connected to the base 3 of the housing so that the arms 31 move twice as far as the ram 6, the jack being lockable in its raised position by pivotal pawls 39 engaging with the racks 38. A hydraulic circuit, Fig. 8, for the ram is described in which a pump 15, mounted on the air cylinder 12 pumps fluid from a tank 11 to the base of the ram through a non-return ball valve 22 having a lever operated bleed valve to by-pass some of the fluid to the tank and thus control the rate of vehicle lift. A pressure relief valve 22 is provided and at a given height, the ram may operate a by-pass valve 22a to prevent further lifting of the ram. Electrical limit switches may be provided to switch off the pump 15 at a given height of the ram. (for figures see next page)
