Abstract

[Also in Divisions B3 and F4] A vertical or inclined mould 40 with a water jacket 44 is subjected to a resonant standing wave vibration, during continuous casting, e.g. of plastics material, by an orbiting-free-rotor vibration generator 16 attached directly to it or by way of a resonant bar (51). The vibrator 16 contains a pneumatically and eccentrically driven free rotor (151-153), Figs. 3-4 (not shown). The vibrations are said to control the casting and cooling rate and to free gas from the material and improve its structure.
