Abstract
1,175,301. Drying wood, dough, cement plates &c. INETA ETAB. 12 Jan., 1968 [13 Jan., 1967], No. 1841/68. Heading F4G. In a method and apparatus, Fig. 1, for drying materials such as wood, dough and cement plates, a batch of material 4 is introduced, e.g. on a truck running on rails 51, into a heatinsulated drying chamber 7, in which air heated by a heater 1 is circulated around the material, e.g. in the directions indicated by the arrows 6, by a blower 2. Means are provided for sensing and repeatedly lowering and raising the relative humidity of the circulating heated air between lower and upper limiting values, e.g. percentages, and for gradually lowering these lower and upper limiting values as drying proceeds. The humidity of the circulating air may be reduced by a cooling device 3, which cools the circulating air below its dewpoint and thus causes water to be condensed from said air. The condensed water may be drained off through a pipe 9 and collected. Steam or water vapour may be generated in a vaporizer 31 and fed, through a pipe 31a and nozzle 31b, into the circulating air to increase its humidity. The apparatus may be automatically controlled by devices in an electric control circuit, Fig. 4 (not shown). For example, the apparatus may be switched off when the material attains a desired dryness, or when a predetermined amount of condensed water has collected.
