Abstract
117,510. Mackie & Sons, J., and Sinton, V. W. July 30, 1917. Flyer frames; spindlc apparatus; moistening yarns in spinning &c. machines. In a gill spinning-frame, the flyer is provided at the top with a twisting-eye and the whole of the twist is put in in the short free space between the roller nip and this flyer eye. The bed 2, 3, Fig. 1, for the fallers 1 is arranged at an angle so that the roller nip is brought in front of the vertical plane passing through the axis of the lower roller 7, and so that the weighting-arrangements can be accommodated above the transverse beam 15. The slivers are narrowed somewhat before passing to the gills and are subsequently passed to the rollers 7, 8 through narrow V-shaped conductors as described in Specification 117,689. The flyers 18 have at the top a twisting eye 24, which prevents further twist taking place below this point. The eye 24 may be carried at the top of channelled arms 31 braced by a yoke piece 32 carried by the top of the spindle 7. The yarn passes down the interior of the arms 31 to prevent ballooning. The flyer may have plain arms 34, Fig. 9, round which the yarn is wrapped and a stem 33 with a central hole bored in the top and two lateral holes 25 leading into it at an angle. The twisting eye may be an inclined hole at the top of the stem and the yarn be led down the inside of channelshaped guides to the flyer arms. The eye may take the form of holes 36, Fig. 7, bored through the boss of the flyer at the base of each arm. The bobbins may be made shorter than usual and the flyer arms shorter and wide apart. The bobbins are preferably dragged by means as described in Specification 117,511. In wet spinning, the yarn is moistened as J is being twisted in its passage from the rollers 7, 8, Fig. 9, by a wick 38 leading from a trough 37 stretching across the frame.
