Abstract
1,174,903. Sawtooth generators. MARCONI INSTRUMENTS Ltd. 2 Feb., 1967 [9 May, 1966], No. 20402/66. Heading H3T. [Also in Division G3] A constant current arrangement comprises transistors T1, T2, of the same conductivity type with similar temperature dependent characteristics, T1 having respective equal resistors 3, 4 in its emitter and collector circuits and its base connected to the junction between resistors 1, 2 which are in series across a D.C. supply E, -V, and T2 having a resistor 5 in its emitter circuit, its base connected to the collector of T1 and, in its collector circuit, terminals L for the connection of a load to be supplied with constant current; the value of resistor 5 is equal to the product of the values of resistors 1 and 2 divided by the sum of said values. Resistor 1 may be replaced by a temperature compensated Zener diode. The input resistance of the arrangement may be reduced by providing a feed-back circuit between the collector of T2 and the base of T1, and by providing means ensuring a predetermined fixed component of current-flow through the circuit of transistor T2 (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown). The transistors T1, T2 preferably have a common housing, and the arrangement may be used in connection with linear voltage ramp generators and voltage controlled delay circuits.
