[Also in Division H4] A curved grid component from which the grid surface of an aerial may be built up is made by pressing gauze 10 on to curved rigid frame 21 by means of curved compression mould 24, adhesion being produced by a thermosetting resin which is subsequently curved at elevated temperature, and the gauze having a higher coefficient of thermal expansion than the frame material and being prestressed under a tensile load which is maintained throughout the process. The gauze may be of stainless steel and the frame may comprise tubular sections of normal steel. As shown frame 21 provided with adhesive rests on supports 20 and a tension of 1À5-2 kg./mm<SP>2</SP> is applied to gauze 10 via clamps 7, 18 and weights 17. Mould 24 is then lowered, forcing gauze 10 into the desired configuration. After pressing, the assembly is wheeled into a furnace, e.g. at 72‹ C., to cure the adhesive.
