Abstract

1,174,769. Automatic voltage control. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. Feb.13, 1967 [March 11, 1966], No.10730/66. Heading G3R. A battery charging system comprises a generator 11 for charging the battery 12, the generator having a recirculating diode 19 connected across its field winding 18; a resistance chain 25, 26 connected across the battery and associated with a capacitor 28 which minimizes radio interference; a Zener diode 15 connected to the resistance chain for detecting the output voltage of the generator; and an amplifier 31, 29 controlled by the Zener diode 15 for controlling the conduction of a transistor 17 connected in series with the field winding 18 and a resistor 21 across the battery 12. The resistance value of resistor 21 is so chosen as to ensure that the amplifier will turn the transistor 17 between fully on and fully off conditions with a mark-space ratio determined by the battery voltage, this switching action being accomplished without the provision of a direct feedback circuit between the transistor 17 and the amplifier 31, 29.
