Abstract

1,174,572. Coated metal particles. GEVAERT-AGFA N.V. 4 Nov., 1966 [5 Nov., 1965], No. 49633/66. Divided out of 1,174,571. Heading B2K. [Also in Division C7] Metal, e.g. steel, particles are formed by feeding a wire into a gas flame and passing a high velocity gas stream around the flame to blast the molten metal in the form of drops into water which includes an antioxidant, e.g. alkylamines, and diphenylamine. The wire may be of magnetic material coated with copper. The particles may be subsequently mixed with particles of tungsten trisulphide, and then heated at 400 to 900‹C in a mixture of hydrogen and nitrogen. The particles may be coated with a resin for use in xerography. To prevent the particles from sticking they may be coated in a mixture (50/50) of toluene and isopropanol containing 0.5% by weight of a compound:- and 0.5% by weight of a 50/50 mixture of organic phosphates having the formula:- where R is an alkyl or aryl radical and n is 5 to 35. A coating of cellulose nitrate and ethyl cellulose acetate, a polyamide, an epoxy resin, a phenol or urea formaldehyde resin or colophony may also be applied.
