Abstract

1,174,107. Laminate. UNION CARBIDE CORP. 8 March, 1967, No. 10859/67. Heading B5N. A method of making a composite vinyl sheet comprises superimposing a film of plasticized polyvinyl chloride or a copolymer of vinyl chloride with another vinyl monomer e.g. vinyl acetate, vinyl alcohol, a vinyl acrylate or vinylidene chloride on to a fabric made of woven, non-woven or knitted fibres of a homo- or copolymer e.g. with acrylonitrile, vinyl acetate or vinylidene " chloride of vinyl chloride, heat sealing said film and fabric to each other to form a laminate and effecting a tear seal therein. A tear seal is defined as being a heat seal defining the outline of a composite product to be obtained from the composite vinyl sheet and forming a line of least resistance through said composite sheet to permit easy separation of the composite product from the composite sheet along said line. The heat sealing may be effected dielectrically. The tear seal is preferably effected with a cutting die capable of transmitting R.F. currents.
