Abstract

1,173,967. Controlling X-ray exposures. MEDICOR MUVEK. March 31, 1967 [April 7, 1966], No. 14943/67. Heading G1A. The current in a radiological X-ray tube is optimized by scanning the fluorescent picture produced, integrating a signal indicative of the luminosity over those areas which the presence of high frequencies in the scanning signal shows to contain most detail and adjusting the tube current until the integrated signal has a predetermined value. The tube anode voltage is adjusted to mascinize the high frequencies in the scanning signal and consequently the amount of detail in the picture. The output of a photo-electric cell 3 or television camera scanning the fluorescent picture 2 is fed through a gate 5 to an integrator 6 and also directly to a selective amplifier 7 comprising a linear amplifier 11 and high pass filter 12 having a transmission capacity of which increases linearly with frequency. The amplifier output is fed to a pulse forming circuit 10 which opens the gate 5 when the R.M.S, value of the A.C. component of the scanning signal is above a predetermined level. The output of integrator 6 may automatically adjust a potentiometer 19 varying the current through the tube 1 until the integrator output reaches a preset value. The R.M.S. value of the amplifier output is also derived by a rectifier 8 and differentiated by a circuit 21 which adjusts the tube anode voltage by means of a potentiometer 25 until the derivitive is zero. The amount of detail in the picture is then a maximum. The circuit 21 and the potentiometers 19, 25 may be omitted and the tube current and voltage adjusted in accordance with the readings on indicators 14, 15.
