Abstract

1,173,421. Watering plants. B.R.C. PATENTS Ltd., B. T. R. REYMES-COLE and M. S. GINNS. 7 Sept., 1966 [28 June, 1965; 31 July, 1965], Nos. 27210/65 and 32888/65. Heading A1E. A device for feeding water to potted plants comprises a trough 11 for water and a sheet 13 of foam plastics material with communicating cells which is positioned in the trough. A support 15 on which a plant pot can rest, and absorbent material for conducting water through the support to the pot. The support is located within the trough by means of lugs 21 which engage in slots 23 in the support, and has an aperture 17 through which projects a disc 20 carrying a layer 19 of foam plastics material. The sheet 13 has a central bore which receives a wick 25 which extends through an opening in the plant pot. In a modification the wick 25 is omitted and the sheet 19 extends completely across the upper surface of the support. The foam plastics sheet and/or a layer of absorbent material located thereon, may include a plant food and/or a dyestuff. The trough may contain an immersion heater or it may be heated from underneath.
