A rolling mill plant for rolling bars or strands of small section includes a heating furnace 1, a roughing train A, an intermediate train B and two finishing trains CA and CB, the trains A and B having alternate horizontal and vertical stands. A change over guide 5 and storage reels 3 and 4 control the flow of material from the intermediate to finishing trains. The horizontal stands of the trains CA and CB may be made common to the two trains, in which case the remaining vertical stands are staggered relative to one another. The finishing stands may be inclined at 45 degrees, and the reels may be associated with heating or cooling apparatus for storing the material at a uniform temperature.
