Abstract
1,173,319. Moulding concrete. H. HALLER and E. WENDL. 10 Nov., 1966 [12 Nov., 1965], No. 50420/66. Heading B5A. [Also in Division E1] Precast reinforced concrete units e.g. floor joists (see Division E1) are moulded and steam cured on a building site in an assembly of moulds defining a steam-tight enclosure which is heated from a mobile steam plant. The moulds 2, 2<SP>1</SP>, 2<SP>11</SP> are provided with insulation (35) packed walls (34) (Figs. 3a and 3b, not shown) and stacked in a vertical arrangement with the upper or lower edges (16) of the walls projecting into heat-insulating material (15) e.g. sand or foam insulant, in a channel-section edge of the wall of a respective lower or upper mould, and the topmost mould 2<SP>11</SP> is surmounted by a steamtight lid 9. Each mould comprises a plurality of cavities for forming the joists 7 which may be defined between fixed upwardly tapering partitions 19 or removable downwardly tapered partitions 18 whereby ejection of the moulded joist is facilitated. The removable partitions 18 are aligned by clearances (12) therein, Figs. la and lb (not shown), into which locate members (11) joined outside the enclosure by a vertical cross member (13). Steam for heating, and air or water for cooling, is circulated throughout the assembly via pipes 20 connected to plates (28) at either end of the mould assembly and supplied from a portable steam generator and distributer. The moulds 2 may be assembled end to end to produce joists of multiples of a unit length. Each mould 2, which may comprise screwed together elements, is conveyed to the casting site by a crane or an overhead gantry crane (8) on rails (27) which also serves to remove the cast joists and the empty moulds so that the placing of reinforcement and concrete can recommence in the bottom mould 2. The moulds are provided with a curvature in the longitudinal joist direction, which may be variable, and the joist section may be varied by using different linings whereby the sag of the joists under full installed load is accounted for. Mould temperatures are measured at a remote location by tele-thermometers installed in the moulds.
