1,173,140. Detecting specific digital signals. BRITISH TELECOMMUNICATIONS RESEARCH Ltd. 31 Oct., 1967 [2 Nov., 1966], No. 49206/66. Heading G4H. A circuit for detecting the occurrence of a predetermined signal pattern in a sequence of binary digits comprises a store to temporarily store each digit of the sequence, a plurality of comparison means each arranged to compare each digit of the sequence with a previous digit stored in the store, and a plurality of switching devices operable by the comparison means to produce a predetermined output when the signal pattern has occurred. In the form of Fig. 1, the incoming signals are applied to a three-stage shift register SR the outputs of which are gated with incoming signals at G1, G2, G3. Gate G1 responds to a "1, 1" combination to pick relay A, gate G2 responds to a "1, -, 1" combination to pick relay B and gate G3 responds to a " 1, -, -, 1 " combination to pick relay C. Contacts of the relays are interconnected to give outputs when specified patterns of digits are present. In another form, Fig. 3, the incoming signals are applied to a bi-stable device T and an inverter I. The output of the inverter is gated at G4 and G5 with the " 0 " and " 1 " outputs of the bi-stable. The signal itself is gated at G6 with the " 1 " output of the bi-stable. Relay A responds to a " 0, 0 " combination, relay B to " 0, 1 " and relay C to " 1, 1." Contacts of the relays are interconnected as before to indicate the presence of larger specified groups of digits.
