Abstract

1,172,775. Suture apparatus. VSESOJUZNY NAUCHNO-ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT KHIRURGICHESKOI APPARATURY I INSTRUMENTOV. 3 Aug., 1967, No. 35757/67. Heading A5R. A surgical apparatus for suturing tissues comprises a magazine for staples, a pusher for ejecting staples from the magazine, two guides with longitudinal grooves, each of the guides having at least one die made as a curvilinear needle having a slot made on the inner concave face thereof and being a continuation of the respective longitudinal groove of the guide so that a staple, on being ejected from the magazine by the pusher, slides along the grooves in the two guides to be received by the two slots of the two dies wherein the two ends of the staples are bent. The surgical apparatus of Fig. 3 has the overall shape of a pair of pincers and comprises two guides 1 and 2, a needleshaped die 3 on each guide, a pusher 4 and a magazine 5 for staples. Guides 1 and 2 are pivotally interconnected by axle 8, the spring 9 mounted on guide 1 serving to bias the guides apart. Each guide is provided with a lateral groove 10, while the magazine 5 is provided with a spring 21 which presses the magazine firmly into the lateral groove of the guide 2. As shown in Fig. 4, each die 3 is in the form of a bent needle on the concave side of which is a longitudinal slot 14 continuing at 15 around the bend of the needle. Each slot 14 is the continuation of a respective groove 12 which is formed in the respective guide to be in communication with the respective lateral groove 10. The pusher 4 is provided with a rod 29 which enters magazine 5, contacts a staple 13, pushes the staple into the grooves 12 of the guides 1 and 2 and finally bends over the ends 18 of the staple during the passage of the latter along the parts 15 of the dies 3. If a number of rods 29 are provided, then, for each stroke of the pusher, a corresponding number of staples can be arranged to be fed from the magazine.
