Abstract

1,172,174. Printing-apparatus. ADDRESSOGRAPH MULTIGRAPH CORP. 27 March, 1968 [27 March, 1967], No. 14744/68. Heading B6C. Apparatus 20 for cleaning an offset roller 16 in situ comprises a cleaning roller 40 rotatably supported in contact with the roller 16 in a frame 45, a pan 300 containing cleaning fluid and mounted on the frame below the roller 40, and a wick 360 extending lengthwise of the roller 40 and having its lower portion within the pan and its upper portion in wiping contact with the roller 40, said wick being shaped to provide a compressed lattice of resilient resin having a short substantially vertical conducting path for the fluid from the pan to the roller 40. The wick is advantageously of expanded polyurethane foam which has been compressed under heat and pressure to one-third of its original volume. A spring-loaded metal roller 90 controls the amount of fluid on the axiallyreciprocating roller 40 reaching the roller 16. The wick is gripped by teeth 372 on a strip 370 at one end of the pan and on its opposite side by teeth 372<SP>1</SP> supported by the pan cover 380. The roller 40 is tripped by manual operation of a lever 50 which swings the frame 45 utilizing an eccentric device 51, 52.
