Abstract
1,171,174. Pipe-making apparatus. S. KANAO. 15 Nov., 1966 [15 Nov., 1965 (2)], No. 46179/66. Heading F2P. Apparatus for the continuous manufacture of a synthetic resin pipe comprises a plurality of inner rollers 31, stationary supporting means 35 supporting each of said inner rollers for rotation about its respective axis 32, the rollers being disposed in such a way that they define a substantially cylindrical circumscribing surface with said rollers being spaced at uniform peripheral intervals in said surface and the axis of each roller being slightly oblique relative to the axis of said surface in the peripheral direction thereof with uniform deviation for each of the rollers, driving means for uniformly rotating each of the rollers about its respective axis, at least one extruder 49 for extruding a continuous strip 47 of synthetic resin material on to said rollers, whereby the rotation of the rollers advances the strip over all of the rollers circumferentially around and at the same time axially of said substantially cylindrical surface, and means for causing the lateral edges of adjacent turns of the advancing strip to weld together to form the product pipe, the inner rollers being each of slightly tapered form with their smaller diameters at the ends thereof towards which the product pipe is advanced. The rollers 31 are individually rotated by a power shaft 43 through a set of gears 40, 44, and a pressure roller 37, whose axis lies parallel to the uppermost roller 31 and which is spring urged toward this roller which is rotatably driven in the opposite direction to the uppermost roller, by gearing 45, 46. The strip 47 preferably includes a hard synthetic wire 48. In a modification, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown), each of the rollers is provided with annular grooves to produce a corrugated tube and an endless string (100) is helically wound on to the tube and is driven by a drive shaft to aid the progression of the formed tube axially along the rollers 51 towards their tapered ends.
