Abstract

A radioactive source includes a substrate, for example of glazed ceramic or of steel, carrying a radioactive layer which is covered by a sealing film of oxide of Ti, Sn, Zr, Al and/or Cr. The oxide film may be formed by hydrolysis of the metal chloride, e.g. titanium or tin tetrachloride, or by pyrolysis of an organometallic compound. The radioactive layer may be applied as a solution or by electrophoresis as an oxide mixed with silicate enamel.
