Abstract

117,086. Wessem, J. C. van. Dec. 23, 1915, [Convention date]. Pulp, preparation of.-Long fibre half stuff light in colour is obtained from saw-dust and other wood waste by subjecting the material to grinding in the presence of not more than 60 per cent of its weight of water, the heat developed by the grinding being used to vaporize part of the water so that the final product contains not more than 30 per cent of moisture. The material from a cyclone 1 is delivered through a crusher 2 to a sorting machine 3 where it is mixed with material from a cyclone 4. From the sorter, the large pieces are conducted back to the crusher, the remainder passing through a weighing-apparatus 5 to a drum 7 in which it is mixed with the correct quantity of water passed through a meter 6 from a tank 19. A screw conveyer 8 conducts the mixture to a supply tank 9 and a conveyer 10 from this tank to a grinding-maehine 11 in which the long fibre half stuff is produced. The temperature in the grinding-machine must not rise above 90‹ C. An exhauster 12 forces the material to a cooling-cyclone 13 from which it passes to a sorting-machine 14. Big pieces are returned to the crusher 2, and the remainder passes to an automatic weighing-machine and from there to the hopper 16 of an hydraulic press 17.
