122,812. Wessem, J. C. van. Jan. 29, 1918, [Convention date]. Addition to 117,086. Pulp, preparation of.-The process described in the parent Specification is applied to the preparation of pulp from all kinds of materials containing cellulose such as wood, woody products, straw, chaff, reeds, or the like. 100 parts of material are ground in 60-120 parts of water and the hea.t developed by friction raises the temperature to 70-100‹ C. and produces a flexible or elastic fibrous material of light colour, the final product containing not more than 40 per cent. of moisture, the remainder of the moisture having been evaporated by the process. The product may be fed direct to the paper machine. In carrying out the process, material from the reservoir 1 is fed to a comminuting-apparatus 2, a conveyer 5, a sorting-apparatus 4, and to a closed vessel 7 where it is mixed with the measured quantity of water from a reservoir 15 and subjected to steam, compressed air or a vacuum. It is then ground in a mill 9 and forced to a cyclone 11, and passes thence through a sorting-apparatus 12 to a collecting-chamber 13. Material retained in the sorters 4, 12 is returned to the vessel 7 and to the comminuting-apparatus 2 respectively. Raw material when in a sufficiently comminuted state may be fed direct from a reservoir 3 to the sorting-apparatus 4.
