Abstract
1,170,857. Sub-aqueous wells. GRAY TOOL CO. 19 May, 1967 [26 May, 1966], No. 23464/67. Heading E1F. [Also in Division F2] A sub-sea well 10 comprises an outer casing 12 driven to refusal in the sub-sea earth, the casing having a hanger support seat 14 formed in its bore 16 about 20 feet below the mud line 18 to support via a hanger 22 an inner casing string 20, the inter-casing annulus 24 being cemented up to 26, while the outer casing 12 continues up to about 5 feet above the mud line where it terminates in a wedgelike flange 28 which is connected to a riser 30 having a similar flange 32 by a remotely operable clamp 34, as described in Specifications Nos. 757,336, 757,337 and 782,360. The hanger 22 has an annular extension 38 fixed to it by threading 39 and circumferential welding at 40, the extrusion having a bore 42 which enlarges upwardly at 44 to define a sealing surface for co-operation with hard hydraulic packing 78 contained in circumferential recesses 76 formed in the lower end of a stab-in tieback sub 64 including locking slip rings 90 (see Division F2) which is installed on the lower end of a riser 60 to enable the latter to be connected to the extension 38 when, owing to rusting of the extension after a period during which the well may have been abandoned, a more usual threaded connection of a riser as by threading 48 initially provided within the extrusion for this purpose is no longer practicable.
