Abstract

1360316 Boring earth &c VETCO OFFSHORE INDUSTRIES INC 4 July 1972 [5 Aug 1971] 31314/72 Heading E1F A liner L is held in tension within a marine riser M. The liner comprises a part 65 having a hanger 19 and a part 66 having an anchor 50, the parts being connected by a one-way gripper 77. A tool 90 is connected to threads 69 72 on the parts 65, 66 respectively and the liner is lowered into the riser until the hanger is supported by the nipple 11 on the riser, the anchor being below the grooves 12a, 13a in the lower end 10 of the riser. The tool is rotated to free it from the threads 69 and is raised to bring the anchor into engagement with the grooves 12a, 13a. An upward force applied to the tool operates the gripper to tension the liner. A valved plug 100 may be installed to test for leaks particularly at the seals 25, 53. The liner is removed from the riser by cutting the liner below the hanger and raising the riser to permit the liner to fall onto the sea bed. In a modification the tool 90 is dispensed with and tension is applied to the part 66 by a casing spear.
