In a switching system comprising a reed switch whose contacts are connected by a cable to a voltage source in series with the energizing winding of a relay, one of the contacts is connected to the cable through an ohmic resistor dimensioned to prevent overload of the switch contacts due to capacitive current discharge from the cable. The resistor also limits the charging current of a capacitor shunting the relay winding.
