Abstract
1,170,646. Securing sleeves on shafts; circlips. MOLINS MACHINE CO. Ltd., and W. C. LONDON. 10 Oct., 1968 [11 Oct., 1967], No. 46376/67. Headings F2H and F2U. A sleeve 2 is axially located and secured on a shaft 1 by a ring-shaped resilient member 3 of moulded plastics material and having a pair of oppositely located inner projections 4 engaging a peripheral groove 9 in the shaft 1, the member 3 being retained by a thrust ring 12 and circlip 15 mounted in the sleeve 2. The projections 4 are releasable from groove 9 by applying manual pressure to a pair of oppositely disposed radial keys 5 in grooves 10 at the end of sleeve 2. The latter with locking member 3 are slid into position over the end of shaft 1, which is tapered or reduced in diameter, radial lugs 6 in line with projections 4 serving to show whether the members are correctly engaged. As shown, keys 5 have inwardly projecting portions engaging end grooves 8 in shaft 1 to lock the latter to sleeve 2, but these may be omitted to allow free relative rotation of the sleeve and shaft.
