Abstract

The shaft assembly for a vehicle steering system has two telescopic elements (1, 8), a spring acting on the inner end of the male element. The inner end of the male element is enlarged, tabs (9a) retaining the male element in position. The enlarged end of the male element has a peripheral groove (21), plastics elements (23) bearing in the groove and acting with the tabs to retain the male element. The outer surface of the enlarged end of the male element is longitudinally grooved, and the female element has teeth around each hole which houses a plastics element (23). The latter teeth bear on the plastics elements.
