1,170,576. Boots &c. E. R. OUIMET. 24 May, 1968 [5 June, 1967], No. 24849/68. Heading A3B. A shoe sole 10 e.g. an insole, midsole or outsole, consists of a blank having its edges covered with a U-shaped band F of synthetic plastics material which is integrally bonded to the blank and whose exposed surface is hard and glossy. The band may have parts 15a, b and c of uniform thickness as shown or may have a circular outer cross-section. The band may be formed by applying a plastisol to the edge of the blank by means of a roller R, the blank being held in rotary holders 23, 24. A groove G in the roller R has a cross-section corresponding to that of the band F and the groove G is charged with plastisol from a tank 16. After application heat is applied to cure the plastisol and bond it to the blank. A suitable material for the band F is polyvinyl chloride.
