Abstract
1,170,083. Screw-and-nut gearing. ROTAX Ltd. 5 May, 1967 [15 March, 1966], No. 11332/66. Heading F2Q. A screw-and-nut mechanism comprises a screw 10 having a helical rib 11, the pitch of which is substantially greater than its axial width, a part-nut 12 having a helical recess 14 formed therein, and two rows 16 of balls located between the rib 11 and recess 14, the rows being joined at their ends by inserts 17. Each insert 17 is cylindrical and provided with a tongue 18 which prevents it from rotating, and has a groove shaped to carry balls leaving one row over the rib 11 and into the other row. The inserts 17 are retained by a sleeve 19. Further pairs of rows may be provided with further pairs of inserts, and a pair of such nuts may be provided in a housing.
